Title: LAW & BEARD
Series: The Dixie Warden Rejects
Author: Lani Lynn Vale
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Day: March 8th

Winnie thinks she has the perfect life.

Two beautiful, healthy children. A police officer husband. A job that she loves. Oh, and let’s not forget that she’s a nationally ranked marathon runner.

Fast forward six months, and her perfect life has imploded.

Winnie finds herself in a completely new world, and this new world is a brutal bitch.

In this new life of hers, her husband is gone. He realizes, at the worst possible time, that he’s no longer in love with her. He’s in love with her best friend. So he leaves, and doesn’t look back.

Her sixteen-year-old daughter is in trouble with the law, and she’s barely making ends meet thanks to losing the job that was keeping her and her tiny family afloat.

Then, the last thing that could make it all bearable, her running, is ripped out from under her, too. Thanks to a spinal stroke that leaves her unable to walk, let alone run, she’s having to relearn how to do the simplest of tasks—such as putting on her own pants.

She’s at the lowest of lows, and the last thing she wants is a sexy, bearded, motorcycle riding alpha to tell her how to live her life.

But Steel Cross never asks her what she wants.

***

The moment Steel Cross sees Winnie’s daughter steal some shoes for her younger brother, he knows he’s in trouble.

He’s a sucker for misunderstood teens. After all, he was once one himself.

He knows he can’t just walk away, and the moment he sees that troubled teen’s mother, he doesn’t just know it, he feels it. Down to the very bottom of his soul.

With his share of hard knocks, he knows that he shouldn’t step in and make his move on a fellow police officer’s ex. There’s a code, after all, yet he just can’t seem to help himself.

He’s done being the good guy. Sometimes he just wants to be bad.

And Winnie makes him realize that being bad is still kind of good. As long as you’re with the right person.

Sooooo, I have a confession to make....Prior to signing up for this book, I didn't read the blurb or even look at the cover. I just knew that it was LLV and that her books are awesome and that was enough for me.

Same. Especially with it being in the Dixie Wardens Rejects series, which is my favorite of all her series. I knew it would be good!

Right. Only problem is...that cover. When I saw it, I got nervous. And then I realized who it was about that that there'd be an age difference and well...I'm not into daddy books! πŸ™ˆ

πŸ˜‚ I will agree that the cover is not my favorite. Buuuut... I don't mind the age difference or as you called it the Daddy books lol. My only hesitation, which I'm sure we'll get to, was if or when she referred to him as such, or in this case Big Papa. In bed. I just can't with that lmao

LOL. Don't get me wrong, the cover isn't awful. Her covers are never awful (they're normally awesome!), but the guy on the cover isn't how I pictured Steel. As for the daddy part...I honestly don't mind age differences, but knowing that Steel had a son Winnie's age, I was worried that things would go there and well...I just can't do the daddy thing. I was super glad that she didn't call him Big Papa.

I agree. The fact Sean was the same age as Winnie was a little eh for me but I was able tp look past that because the story overall was so great and the age thing wasn't played on in a way that gave any ick factor to it.

I agree. And it helped that Steel didn't FEEL old to me as I read.

I agree. Honestly, except for the times it was mentioned, I forgot he was in his fifties. He certainly didn't act like it πŸ˜‰

I agree. It was easy to forget his age. Lol, I kept waiting for a line about he can only go once a night or something since he was old...but we both know that didn't happen πŸ˜‰πŸ˜œ

Lol nope it suuuuure didn't!

I'd I have to pick one issue I had, it's that Winnie's ex didn't get taken down a peg or 2. Karma needed to kick his ass hard!

Omg yes! He was such a douche canoe and I wanted him to lose his job and become homeless. Or something extreme like that lol

Lol. I kept waiting to find out he was dirty or something and for him to lose his job. And don't get me started on his wife!

Me too. But sadly that didn't happen... and yeah the wife was awful. I was waiting for her to go to jail for child endangerment! Every time she was mentioned it was something about her NOT watching her kids and them getting hurt 😑

Omg. I know! And I thought for sure that something would come from her son and his bitch of a girlfriend trying to frame Conleigh!

Right! They needed to be put down. For real. Speaking of Conleigh... I liked that she was mostly a level headed teenager. I didn't like when she started acting tstl.

She was so mature for her age, but at the same time so naive. I saw through that moment (the tstl moment) right away but I can't hold it against her because a) she was just a kid and b) she didn't know what was going on and about that person coming back. And let's be real, she was really young when that went down years ago, so I can see her not knowing about that event at all

I agree. I saw it coming too and even while yelling at my kindle for her not to do it, I understood that she didn't know the situation that was going on. I will say, I'm glad that when it came down to it, Winnie reacted pretty much how I would have.

Same! And I loved that Steel was all papa bear over it, but kept it in check because "he was just her mother's boyfriend" and they hadn't had that convo yet and he didn't want to step on any parental toes.

Yes. I also loved how he stepped in from the beginning to be a good male figure in both her kids lives, seeing as that douche canoe of a father wasn't one. But even though he was there to help and guide, he never tried to undermine Winnie or take over.

I totally agree. And he presented the facts to Conleigh in a way that was logical and informative instead of condescending and a lecture.

Yep. That made me like him even more.

See, that's what I didn't get though. She said "Everyone she's with gets hurt" but, her douche bag ex didn't get hurt...so that didn't make sense. And Steel is a cop. He can take care of himself and she just ran. I HATED that and it was out of character for her. She didn't run when her ex made her look bad in front of the whole town during their divorce, she lived her life, went to work, healed from her spinal stroke and took care of her family. She did what she had to even when things were uncomfortable and then SHE FREAKING RAN FROM STEEL. I didn't like it.

Wow. I don't think I could have said it any better than that! You're so right though. There was no reason for her to run when she did.

And what was weird to me, and granted, I'm not a parent...but her kids went from having issues to being perfect and having no issues in a new school in the middle of the year. That was just odd to me

Yeah that was odd. I think I was so caught up in everything else that I didn't really notice that...
Then again, after the police car was vandalized and Steel knew it was the step monsters son's girlfriend i thought he said it did something about that

The step monster's son and girlfriend did get in trouble, but it still was weird to me that there were no Growing Pains if you will, with either child in a new school in the middle of the year.

Yeah I see what you mean. So... what did you love most?

I loved the relationship between Steel and Winnie. I loved how protective he was and how it started as respect and friendship. I'll be honest, when things started to turn romantic I was almost not quite disappointed but sad that the building friendship portion was over. What did you love?

Mostly the same. I loved how she was determined to get better and even though she was struggling financially, she was proud and held her head high. I loved how they had an instant attraction but didn't jump right in. They developed a friendship first and I felt that made their transition to a couple stronger. Yes there were some blips where there were doubts and she ran, but at the end of the day, or book rather lol, they came out stronger than ever. I also loved that the age difference didn't cause any major strife with all the kids, even the adult one. They made a joke about it which I found humorous.

I completely agree. Even the blip of his ex could have completely derailed their relationship, but they didn't let it. Granted, they cool things off a little but there was never any doubt that they were in it for the long haul and they were going to get through his ex.

Exactly. And another thing I liked was that even though the situation with his ex could have been dragged out or blown out of proportion, it wasn't and I especially liked how Winnie told Steel how to handle that!

Omg yes! That was awesome! Probably one of my favorites in any book ever!

Same! *high five *

Anything else we want to touch upon?

I can't think of anything

Ok, so...what's our final rating?

What did you rate it?

I gave it 4.5 stars because even though I had a few minor issues, I really enjoyed the overall story and it was done well

All in all I'd say this was another hit from one of our favorite authors!

I would totally agree!

I'd never, not once, had the pleasure of giving a blow job.
Yet, I wanted to give one…to Steel.
Jesus Christ, did I want to give him one.
The man turned me on in ways that I had no clue I could be turned on by, yet here I was, wondering what it would feel like to give the man a blow job.
My curiosity got the better of me as I googled more tips-which they'd said they'd done as a comparison-and then I got lost in the World Wide Web.
My first stop had been Cosmopolitan!
My second had been some random Joe-Blow (literally, that was the name of the website) blog that gave the men's top ten best blow job tips-according to men.
1. Maintain eye contact.
2. Tie your hair back, it shows your dedication.
3. Allow him to put his hand in your hair and control the movements.
That, I could do! In fact, the idea of Steel putting his hands in my hair and controlling all of the movement was downright arousing.
4. Use your hand as well as your mouth. Twist it side to side lightly as you pump and suck him.
Okay, pump, suck, and twist. Check!
5. Don't use your teeth. Ever.
I shivered at the thought. That would suck, accidentally biting Steel's dick. He'd probably never let me near him again and kick me straight the hell out of his bed. Though, I had to get in his bed first…
6. Drop down so he's standing and you're kneeling. There's nothing more arousing than watching a woman get on her knees.
That thought made me shiver. Would Steel like me on my knees?
I sure the hell hoped so. I'd love to get on my knees for him.
Then again, I was doing good with my rehab…he still might have to help me back up.
I winced. Maybe I should just get on the bed between his splayed thighs…yes, that was how I'd do it.
7. Suck his balls.
Suck his balls? How the hell did I put those in my mouth? There wasn't enough room!
8. Go slow. It's not a race.
9. Swallow.
Well, that was self-explanatory. But I didn't know if I could swallow. I'd try, but what if I gagged?
10. We like it when you gag.
Did they? What if I accidentally threw up? That would completely ruin the mood.
"What are you doing?"
I squeaked and jumped as Steel came out of the bathroom.
