Lose a bet, lose your heart...
What is it about a junior-high crush that

Cue meet-cute shenanigans and all manner of meddling, and somehow, Jake's
falling. For Char. Now all he has to do is make her believe it . . .

Yes, I know. Now, for our review!
SO FREAKING AWESOME! I initially was't sure if I wanted to even read this since I loathed Jake in The Bet. But lucky for me, Ms. Van Dyken (somewhat) redeemed him at the end so I went straight to this and guess what?! I couldn't put it down! I freaking loved it!
That's how I felt. I hated Jake in The Bet and even though he changed toward the end, I didn't believe the change.
Jake turns out to be a good guy. I loved watching him come to the realization that how he'd been living his life wasn't too good. His behavior was appalling and I could tell he truly wanted to change.
I didn't quite get that from him. I kept feeling like he was most concerned with not being the billionaire he was used to and having to live like a millionaire.
Of course, once he realized his true feelings for Char, that made it even more apparent he needed to do some serious soul searching, and he did. I actually felt kinda bad for him at a few times since it seemed no one, other than Char, even saw he was trying to be better.
Char was awesome. She really cracked me up. In the beginning of the book, I felt like she could do so much better than Jake.
Char was a very likable girl. She didn't put up with Jake's crap and gave as good as she got. I loved the appearance of Travis and Kacey but the character that truly stole the show... Grandma Nadine! That lady is all kinds of crazy wrapped in and 80 year old package of awesome! I wish she were my Grandma! Life would definitely be more interesting.....
In The Bet, I loved Grandma Nadine. She was awesome and funny. But I felt she was a little over the top in this one. She wasn't bad, just a little to extreme for me.
Anywho. This one was just as awesomesause as the first and I can't tell you how much I loved them! I seriously found myself slowing down at the end because I didn't want it to be over. And when I finished I seriously considered starting The Bet over and then rereading both back to back again! I still might... Both were amazing! Hilarious, well written, nicely flowing and great characters that leave you sad when its time to say goodbye! I hope there will be a third! But only if it includes Grandma! ;)
Lol. And I would definitely read a third book if the author wrote one!

Let's move on to the first book in this series...The Bet.

Kacey should have run the minute those words left Seattle millionaire Jake
Titus's mouth. It's been years since Kacey's seen her childhood friend Jake,
but the minute Jake mentions his ill grandmother, Kacey is ready to do anything
for the sweet old woman. And if that means pretending they're engaged for her
sake-so be it.
But Kacey wasn't counting on Jake's older
brother Travis still being there. She calls him "Satan" for a reason:
she's never forgotten the way he teased and taunted her. Yet when they meet
again, Travis's gorgeous smile is a direct hit to her heart . . . and Kacey's
more confused than ever. As the days pass, only one thing starts to become
alarmingly clear-she never should have accepted Jake's deal...
Ok so I was in the worst kind of book funk and nothing was working to get me out of it. A friend (thanks Lindsay!) mentioned The Bet and said it was really good and I should try it. She even tried to lay claim to Travis before I ever even opened it! Shocking right!
So I decided to give it a try, and what do ya know, she was so right! 
And can I just say, I am claiming Travis! 
Yes, I find that very shocking! You're the one that tries to claim all the hot heroes! You've told me many times that they're yours before I ever touch a book!
And may I say, NO, you're not claiming Travis! Travis is MINE!!! You've already claimed Jake, Travis is all mine!This book was awesomesauce! It was freaking hilarious! I was laughing so hard and I just couldn't put it down! The author has become one of my new favorites for sure. The writing was great, the characters and dialogue was fabulous! It flowed nicely and was definitely a page turner! Kacey and Travis' banter had me in stitches!
I would have to agree with you. I loved Travis and Kacey together. Travis had a maturity about him that made me think he was older than his 23 years. Kacey, like Travis, at times was older than her age. I enjoyed those moments. I also enjoyed the scenes where they would joke around with each other. You could see the chemistry between them.
Jake was a total ass and I hated him from page one, and I was really doubting whether or not Ms. Van Dyken would be able to redeem him for me in order to read his book next. But a true testament to her talent, she did. Barely, but it was there.
Jake acted like a stupid, immature, playboy 21 year old. It really threw me off, having his POV. I completely see why it was needed. Seeing into his head did add to the story, but it threw me for a loop after reading the prologue from Travis’s POV. But I really disliked Jake. He was awful (great job by the author for that). He did have a turnaround at the end of the book, but I didn’t buy it. It was too quick and there wasn’t really anything throughout the book that would make him change. It was just abrupt for me.
Kacey was a little dumb when it came to Jake but the way it was written, it was understandable.
My issues with her were minor compared to the other issues. I just felt like her emotions were a little all over the place. In the beginning, she was in love with Jake and still hurt over what he did (understandable…he was horrible) but he was the guy she couldn’t get over. Then as soon as she saw Travis, her feeling for Jake turned into just a physical attraction because he was the hottest thing since sliced bread. That’s when she went to being attracted to both brothers. But, I did enjoy the journey of how she fell in love with Travis. That was definitely a well-built journey.
And Travis.... LOVED him! He was definitely the perfect guy.
He had loved Kacey from the age of eight and the poor kid did what
little boys do to show their feelings... He pulled her hair and put dead
frogs in her locker. And things just went downhill from there over the
years. I loved the beginning of the book. Young Travis was so cute in his confusion on how to treat girls.
Which brings me to Grandma Nadine. The best grandma ever!! She cons everyone and it is hilarious! She gets Kacey to return home after moving away several years before, all with the intention to give Travis what he wants most - Kacey. Their relationship starts out on shaky ground but soon starts to heat up. It was so fun to watch as these two came together! I really loved this one and I wasnted to immediately start it over once I finished! I can't recommend this one enough! Go read it! :-)
