We participated in the cover reveal for this book last month and we've been counting down the days until we were able to read this.
Grant
is damaged, selfish, and undeserving of love…or so he thinks.
Jessa
is happy, in love, and has overcome her past…or so she thinks.
Grant
and Jessa can’t stop thinking about one another since being introduced at a
party a month ago. And despite their differences, they can’t seem to stay away
from each other either. However, both are hiding secrets of less-than-perfect
pasts, fearing what will happen when those mistakes come to light. As they grow
closer, they each battle their own insecurities, and neither believes that they
are worthy of the kind of love that they both still want. So if it’s true that
opposites attract, what happens when the similarities begin to surface?
I
was really looking forward to this book. I haven’t read Michelle Lynn's work before but
this book not only has a hot cover, but it sounded AWESOME!
Initially,
I was surprised to find that this was NA. The description didn’t indicate at
all that it was NA. I’m not complaining that it was, I just wasn’t expecting
it.
This
book was enjoyable. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down. Even though this is
book 2 in the series, it’s a stand-alone, which I was happy about since I haven’t
read the first one.
I
liked the relationship between Grant and Jessa. There was a connection between
them from page one. Even though this was
a stand-alone, I didn’t feel like I was missing out on seeing how they met
exactly. I wasn’t happy when I found out that Jessa had a boyfriend. I started
having flashes of love triangles and cheating, and I’m not a fan of either. So
I started cringing and percent watching to see how long I would be tortured
with Jessa’s horrible boyfriend. I was EXTREMELY happy that she dumped him by
25%.
I
had a lot of respect for Grant. He was crazy about Jessa and could see that she
was into him. He made it known that he wanted to be with her but also told her
that he didn’t go after other guy’s girls, and that he was going to keep his
distance. I really liked that once Grant and Jessa got together, they were
together. There was no breaking up. They were in it for the long hall. That’s
not to say that they didn’t have issues and occasionally fight, because they
did. But they didn’t break up over it.
I
also loved the letters from Grant’s mom. Those were just beautiful and they
brought tears to my eyes.
I
had a couple issues with the story. The author did a great job keeping me
hooked with the secrets. I was dying to find out what they were! But I was
slightly disappointed with what they ended up being. I was just expecting more.
And once all the secrets were out in the open, I kept waiting for the other
shoe to drop. And when a confrontation happened, I was disappointed that Grant
& Jessa both ended up thanking
their foe. Maybe I’m a bad person, or not as forgiving as them, but I totally
would have gone all Dexter on him!
Overall,
I’m really glad that I got to read this book my Michelle Lynn. I loved the
secondary characters and can’t wait to go back and read Don’t Let Go as well as
Trey’s upcoming book.
Michelle moved around the Midwest most of her life, transferring from school to school before settling down in the outskirts of Chicago ten years ago, where she now resides with her husband and two kids. She developed a love of reading at a young age, which helped lay the foundation for her passion to write. With the encouragement of her family, she finally sat down and wrote one of the many stories that have been floating around in her head. When she isn’t reading or writing, she can be found playing with her kids, talking to her mom on the phone, or hanging out with her family and friends. But after chasing around twin preschoolers all day, she always cherishes her relaxation time after putting the kids to bed.
