Synopsis: Olivia Lincoln has a plan guaranteed to get her life back on track. A plan that involves her best friend, Danny. And he’s on board, too…until she blurts out that they’re engaged and expecting a baby, and the news spreads like wildfire. The problem? Danny doesn’t do marriage. Or family. And everyone knows it, including Olivia. As irritated as he might be, protecting Olivia is what Danny does. But put best friends under one roof, add house rules begging to be broken, accidental nakedness, and pancakes in bed, and what started as a marriage between friends threatens to turn into the real deal…which would ruin everything.
This book sounded awesome. I love friends to lover stories,
and I’ve definitely been in a secret baby trope mood, so this sounded like the
perfect book. And while I did enjoy it, I also had some issues.
My first issue started with Olivia. I didn’t mind the set
up, she’s pregnant and going home to beg her bff Danny to marry her and be a
father to her baby. But my issues came with how she basically ambushed him and
didn’t give him a choice. I mean, yes, he could have said no, but considering
he’s always bailing her out of situations, and she pretty much publically
announced that they’re engaged and she’s pregnant, how could he turn her away? I
just got really irritated with her, that she didn’t consider his life, or his relationship
status (yes, he was single, but she didn’t know that!) and she didn’t care that
he never wanted to get married or have kids. She just expected him to do her
bidding. It just really bothered me.
As for Danny…I loved him, and how he was willing to step up
and help Liv. I realize that Danny had, what he thought, were good reasons for
why he didn’t want to get married and have kids, but at the same time, I really
had issues with his decisions. If he really felt like he wasn’t going to be
able to stick it out with Liv and the baby, if he thought he would end up
walking away from them, he shouldn’t have agreed to actually marrying her.
I also kept getting a feeling of
two-steps-forward-three-steps-back with Liv and Danny. Every time they’d make
progress, one or both would start to doubt their plans and offer to back out or
walk away and it was just frustrating. Especially when they both started
realizing they were in love with each other and yet Danny still wimped out and
walked away. And what made it worse was that it was right after an emergency
situation with Olivia and the baby and he did it a) without actually seeing her
to make sure she was ok (yes, he got the update from the doc, but still!!!!),
and b) he did it with a Dear Jane letter/card. Not cool dude, not cool at all.
So while I had issues, I actually really liked the
friendship Liv and Danny had. I loved their history and how they were always
there for each other. And I would recommend this to other people because I know
that just because I had some issues, other people won’t.
