Title: Mess Me Up
Series: Bear Bottom Guardians MC #1
Author: Lani Lynn Vale
Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: September 6, 2018
When Rome Pierce moved to Bear Bottom, Texas, it was his intention to lay low. To not be seen. To find a way to heal his body and soul—as well as his son’s.
Nobody would know by looking at him that he used to play professional football. Not with the Bare Bottom MC cut covering his back, and definitely not with his friendly smile completely obliterated.
No longer is there charm in each smooth word that comes out of his mouth. What’s left is an angry, bitter, scared man that’s terrified one day he’s going to wake up and his entire world is going to be gone.
Nobody knows what drove him to leave the game he loved—nobody but her.
She’s the one person that has helped him make it through the dark days and even darker nights. She’s the bright and shining star in his pitch-black sky.
And he doesn’t even know her name.
He should be afraid that she knows things that not anyone—not even his best friend—knows.
Yet, with each encounter, he gives what little bit of his soul remains, and before he knows it only two people on this earth—one dying, and one too afraid to live—make his life worth living.
Until one day he has to choose—the love of his life, or the life he brought into this world.
Oh boy,
this book really did Mess Me Up. (hehe see what I did there? 😜)
Seriously
though, the beginning of this book lived up to the title. It was brutal. I was
a mess. We’re talking full on ugly crying. I was regretting wanting to read
this book. But I powered through, I kept going (with a 90 minute break to get
control of myself) and the rest of the book was really good.
I
really liked Rome. He was a good guy. It annoyed me that everyone got upset
with him after Izzy got pregnant. After what he’d been through, he
understandably panicked. He said he didn’t want kids and there he was facing
having a kid. THAT’S OK. He was still mourning, and there’s no time limit or
timeline on mourning. Let the man grieve!
In all
actuality, I liked the all the characters in this book. And I was glad for that
since that hasn’t been the case of some of the previous books. Rome and Izzy
were able to carry their own story without secondary characters trying to make
everything about them.
One
thing I didn’t like was that Izzy moved away after telling Rome she was
pregnant. Like, really!? She felt the need to run? It annoyed me because she
literally dropped the bomb and fled. She didn’t even give him a chance to get
his head around the news.
Even
with my minor annoyances, this was a good book.
