My first Jessie Lane book was Big Bad Bite and I absolutely loved it. I fell in love with this author's style and knew immediately she (they) were one (two) to look out for. I knew that I would have to read more and soon. When I saw that Secret Maneuvers was released I pounced on it. I had actually planned to read a different book with a friend but this one was literally screaming at me. It doesn't happen often that I come across a book that I just have to read immediately. SM was one that did. So I got it and started it and stayed up until 6 am reading. Alas my poor eyeballs just couldn't keep up so I had to put it down and finish later that day. (you know, at a more reasonable hour! ;)) What an emotionally (gripping) charged, action packed, sexy, heart-wrenching, gut clenching, edge of your seat, can't put it down book! I seriously loved this book! There is not one bad thing to say about it. Other than I want more, of course! :-) The writing was once again superb! The story was one that reached out and grabbed a hold of me and would not let go. I absolutely loved it. The characters were so well written and developed I felt connected to them! Belle and Bobby had a love that is so sweet and heartwarming it just makes you want to find that for yourself.
You're my everything, my fucking essence. I cease to exist unless I'm with you. ~ Bobby

Belle endured such a craptastic childhood but was able to find her prince. But then that prince made one monumental mistake that changed their course drastically. There were secrets and lies and heartbreak. There was suspense and drama and steam. Oh my, the steam! But watching their reunion unfold was amazing. Would they make it work after all? Or would all those secrets and resentments hold them back from each other? There is so much I want to say about this book, but I fear I would start to run off at the mouth er.. keyboard and spoil it for other readers, so I'll leave it short and sweet. I loved everything about this book. The plot was sound, and while Belle's 'big secret' was one I had a strong feeling about from almost the beginning, it wasn't one of those things where you get irritated because it's so obvious. I enjoyed the dialogue immensely! I have to mention that because I've read several books lately that had robot sounding dialogue and that drives me crazy! The way the characters interacted in SM was so realistic it was like a movie in my head. I was very happy about that! The supporting characters were so great that I was instantly interested in stories for them all! I really can't wait for the next in this series and hopefully after that Declan will have his book! I need Decaln's book! LMAO!! Declan and the shop vac!!!
"I didn't care what direction we were facing; horizontal, vertical, hanging halfway off the bed, or tied up in pretzel knots, as long as I got to bury my cock in her within the next breath I took.... I started a rhythm so fast that she was forced to curl her hands over the side of the mattress and try to hold on, or find herself literally fucked over the side of the bed inch by inch."

Here's a gif I found that was too perfect for the smexy scene above not to share. But be warned, it is most definitely NSFW  ;)

Review: Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits #1) by Katie McGarry

Book Description:

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with "freaky" scars on her arms. Even Echo can't remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal. But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo's world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.

Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she'll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.

Review: One Tiny Lie (Ten Tiny Breaths #2) by K.A. Tucker

Book Description:

Livie has always been the stable one of the two Cleary sisters, handling her parents' tragic death and Kacey's self-destructive phase with strength and maturity. But underneath that exterior is a little girl hanging onto the last words her father ever spoke to her. “Make me proud,” he had said. She promised she would...and she’s done her best over the past seven years with every choice, with every word, with every action.

Livie walks into Princeton with a solid plan, and she’s dead set on delivering on it: Rock her classes, set herself up for medical school, and meet a good, respectable guy that she’s going to someday marry. What isn’t part of her plan are Jell-O shots, a lovable, party animal roommate she can’t say ‘no’ to, and Ashton, the gorgeous captain of the men’s rowing team. Definitely him. He’s an arrogant ass who makes Livie’s usually non-existent temper flare and everything she doesn’t want in a guy. Worse, he’s best friends and roommates with Connor, who happens to fits Livie’s criteria perfectly. So why does she keep thinking about Ashton?

As Livie finds herself facing mediocre grades, career aspirations she no longer thinks she can handle, and feelings for Ashton that she shouldn’t have, she’s forced to let go of her last promise to her father and, with it, the only identity that she knows.

Officer Off Limits (Line of Duty #3) by Tessa Bailey

Book Description:

His need to possess her is non-negotiable.

Story Brooks’ fiancé just called off their wedding two weeks before the happy day. As if that isn't bad enough, her semi-estranged father, an infamous NYPD hostage negotiator, has suffered a heart attack. Not wanting to examine her lack of emotion over the broken engagement, she hops on a plane to reconnect with her father before it’s too late.

Playboy hostage negotiator Daniel Chase has never, not once, been refused by a woman, so when a debate over hospital snack foods with a delectable kindergarten teacher ends in flat-out rejection, he makes it his mission to seduce her. His only obstacle? She’s the daughter of his mentor who implicitly forbade Daniel from pursuing her.

Despite her father’s warnings and Daniel’s troubled past, Daniel and Story can’t resist their intense attraction to one another. But when the reason for her fiancé’s abrupt wedding cancellation comes to light, can Story and Daniel's already forbidden relationship survive?

Belong to me, Story. Even if it's just for a little while.♥
~ Daniel

God he broke my heart! I just wanted to reach in and hold him! I loved Daniel so much, maybe even more than Derek, and that is saying something! He was the perfect blend of possessive, take-charge, sweet, emotional, and broken yet determined to make a good life for himself. He didn't think he was worthy of a ‘good’ woman like Story, yet he knew she was worth the effort to at least put his heart on the line and take a chance that she would feel the same.

The chemistry and sexual tension, as well as the actual sex scenes, were off the charts smokin' hot!!! This may be TMI, but I found myself in serious need of a wardrobe change as well as a fan and a cold (maybe stiff) drink! LAMO. In fact, one of the hottest scenes was the first day they met, Daniel had taken Story back to her dad’s place and they had a little bet going. He had one minute to, basically, show her how good he could be. And oh my dear wet panties, He. Was. Good. I fell in love with him from page one.
"Set it again. I haven't even gotten started."
Let’s talk about Story Brooks. Yes that’s her name. Kickass ain't it! This is one sassy and saucy chick! We meet her at a pretty low point. Well, for most women it would be anyway… She gets dumped by her fiancé just weeks before the wedding. Over a seafood dinner no less (which she hates), and without even getting dessert. This is when she realizes that she’s not the girl she once was. All her spunk has been smothered by the relationship that she is not even feeling too down about having just ended. On her way out of the restaurant, toting a bottle of the most expensive Champagne and a to-go box of chocolate cake (on his tab of course), she gets the call about her estranged dad having a heart attack. This is the perfect excuse to get out of town and think on how her life got so off track. Enter Daniel Chase.

I loved that there was no major drama, no running away, no miscommunications. Just a straight up, boy meets girl, sexual attraction ensues story (no pun intended). They get to know each other and give in to said attraction. He wants to prove to Story, and maybe to himself too, that what they have is more than just sex. And it is. He stands firm on this belief and lets her know in a straight forward, no bull shit way that until she’s willing to admit that, she’s not getting any of his love stick. (those are my words btw) ;) At first Story doesn't take him serious. But she soon comes to realize that he’s right and they definitely have something worth exploring. I loved how she finally took that initial step!

Now even though I said no major drama, there has to be a little bit at the climax of the book. Otherwise where would the fun be in knowing our hero is a badass hostage negotiator? There’s a minor situation where we get to see him in action which just adds to his hotness factor. It was a little predictable, but not until the scene creeps up on you. While we didn't see any of Troy in this one, we did meet back up with Brent a few times and another ESU guy, Matt. I’m really hoping Brent’s book gets published soon because I want more!

I have to be honest here. I hated the ending. Wanna know why? Because there WAS one! I was so not ready for this to be over! Tessa Bailey has flown her way to the top of my favorite author list and I need more from her. Like yesterday! With PWH I fell in love with Derek and Ginger. With HRTT, I was even more sure of her awesome talent! No I didn't love Troy more than Derek, but he was awesome nonetheless. But with OOL, I am blown away! Daniel is one of those guys that just stays with you. I finished this book like two days ago and haven’t been able to read anything since. It was that good! And Story was definitely a favorite heroine. It’s hard to find one of those these days. One who stands up for herself and doesn't RUN!! And can admit what /who she wants and goes for it!

So yeah, great book, by a great new author! Go read it! I’ll leave you with some favorite quotes. ;)

“Fuck yeah. Bite me, gorgeous. Mark up my whole body. I want everyone to know who I belong to. Who I get hard for. Just you, Story. Just you.” ~ Daniel

"Hey, sunshine."
"Daniel."
Good Lord, baby, Say my name again. I need you to say it in your sleep. When you touch yourself. To no one in particular. Just say it, say it, say it.
(inner monologue of Daniel)

"Oh really? Who's going to keep me safe from you? I think he'd [her dad] change his mind if he knew you'd ordered me to lift my skirt within an hour of meeting me." ~ Story

"I should have left yesterday before I found out how hot you run. But I didn't. And now I'm fucked." ~ Daniel

"Oh dear sweet Jesus. It's a girl. Danny's all fucked up over a girl... We need some shots over here STAT!" ~ Brent

"All right, we got a pussy whipped man over at table five! Keep the drinks coming!" ~ Brent

"And while we're on the subject, I hope you're not planning any nights out by yourself. New York is a far cry from San Diego." "If I do decide to go out by myself at night, what are you going to do about it? Put an APB out on me?"
She did her best imitation of a man. "Yeah, officers, be on the lookout for a fully grown adult female out past eight o’clock. She’s gone rogue.” ~ Daniel and Story

"Oh, and just so you know, I am going out tonight. It will be after dark. And if you have a problem with that, you can kiss my perfectly palm-sized ass." ~ Story

"You know, I could have sworn you were going to pick the trail mix." "Oh yeah? Why is that?" "Because you're both full of shit."
~ Daniel and Story

Review: Delayed Penalty (Crossing the Line #1) by Shey Stahl

Book Description:

A minor penalty that is not called until the offending team gains control of the puck. As long as the non-offending team maintains possession, the referee allows play to continue and signals a delayed penalty by raising his arm.

I’m Evan Mason, an NHL hockey player for the Chicago Blackhawks. I spend my nights roughing up two hundred pound defensemen and, at times, spend more time in the penalty box than I do on the ice.

That’s my job.

One night changed everything I thought I once knew about my life on, and off, the ice.

A girl.

A brutally beaten girl left to die in an alley.
I don’t know why or how but something made me stay that night after taking her to the hospital. I didn’t know her, nor did I have an obligation to stay but something inside of me rooted me there telling me I should stay. Saving a life is worth something. At least I thought so. And I wouldn’t have been me if I just simply left her there.

Any man who put his heart and soul into a game of hockey couldn’t just walk away when someone needed them. She had no one else right now. The same guy who saw determination where there was desire, now saw hope where there was once despair.

I couldn’t leave. That wouldn’t be me. No, not a man that put all he had into something some called just a game. I couldn’t walk away from her holding onto life, weak and powerless to something she had no control over.

So I stayed. In a room full of family members praying for their loved ones to pull through, I prayed for a girl I didn’t know and had never met before, to have a beating heart. While others’ sorrows turned to grieving pain, I sat waiting on the words of the unknown.

No bond is stronger than the ones you’ll bleed for.

Far From Heaven (Sweet Disgrace #2) by Cherrie Lynn

Book Description:

His love could damn her soul…

Ashemnon’s demonic hunger for Madeleine Dean’s pure, vibrant soul has tormented him throughout every lifetime she’s lived on earth. Now, thanks to her desperate father, he has a blood-tight contract in hand. Soon, her soul will belong to him.

All her life, Maddie has been haunted by strange occurrences, hallucinations and increasingly intense nightmares. As her ex-boyfriend walks away, she can almost hear the pieces of her life falling around her. And then she falls—literally—into the arms of a stranger who’s the first and only person to understand.

Ash meant to pluck her soul, not sweep her off her feet. Yet the moment they touch, the temptation to seduce her again and again is more than he can resist. Despite the risk, he finds himself succumbing to her charms. And, impossibly, falling in love.

Then Ash learns the reason it’s taken centuries to get to this point: He’s not the only one with a claim on her soul. Heaven and Hell are in a tug of war—and Maddie’s the rope. Control wrested from his hands, Ash can only wait for her to make a choice that will damn one soul to Hell…or damn her own.

Warning: This title contains obsession, soul possession, and hot carnal transgression. Oh, and a few scares for good measure. You can’t keep this bad demon down—though you’ll want to try.

Eleventy billion stars!

Cherrie Lynn has been a top favorite author of mine since I first read Rock Me well over a year ago. I'm not sure how I overlooked this book in all that time, but I am so glad I came across it yesterday. That's right. I found this book only yesterday and immediately devoured it. It was incredible. I absofreakinglutely LOVED it! Lynn did such an awesome job creating a world of angels and demons and, to be honest, that theme has never really appealed to me but she broke through my fickle walls and blew me away! She created a world where I wanted to dive right in and was captivated from the first word to the last. And even after I got to the last page on my kindle, I found myself trying to continue turning pages hoping more of the story would magically appear. Sadly, it did not. But that's ok because I still have the first book in this series to read! :)

Ash is absolutely my favorite demon thus far. Is it wrong to fall in love with the bad guy? I mean, technically he's been trying to kill her and possess her soul for centuries... After having no luck he finally finds a loophole to steal Maddie's soul. But once he physically touches her, he decides to indulge in one carnal evening to see what its like to be with her in her human form. And OMG! Lynn is a master at smokin hot sex scenes! And of course, once wasn't enough. Luckily for Ash, he gets a 'stay of execution' on his contract to take Maddie's soul and gets to do all the indulging he wants for a couple weeks! Not so luckily, his superiors aren't happy about him delaying in his duties and demand he do his job, creating a major dilemma for Ash since being with Maddie has done something to him. After all the centuries he's waited and plotted to get her soul, he realizes he's also been falling in love with her the whole time. But he's a product of his environment and doesn't know how to love or even what love is. So now he has a tough choice to make. Take the soul of the woman he loves, or sacrifice himself to save her. Hmm....

Madeleine has had an awful day. Make that an awful life. She's always felt like there was something out to get her. Weird things always happening, like all her clocks being wrong causing her to be late, creepy ghost-like faces peering back at her in the mirror, and just a constant feeling of lowness. On a particularly bad day after getting dumped by her boyfriend, she meets a mysterious hot guy who not only saves her life, but he really seems to get her. So what does she do? Takes him home of course! ;) As she finds herself spending more time and consequently falling for Ash, she finds her life doesn't seem so bad when he's around. Little does she know that floor is about to fall out from underneath her.

When the other shoe drops and Ash is finally forced to reveal all to Maddie, they both are faced with some tough decisions. Will she accept him knowing he's not only a demon, but the one responsible for her lifelong woes and was initially intending on reaping her soul? Will he follow through on his assignment or will he sacrifice himself to save the woman he loves? Go read it!!! :)

And even though he's my first angle, Riam is my favorite! I hope he gets a book sometime in the future!

And will Hayden leave with her heart intact?

Seriously, for such a short book, this one packed a punch!

This is absolutely my most favorite friends to lovers story EVAH! So well written, so freaking hot, so fanfreakingtastic!

When Jace and Hayden come together (pun so intended)

This was really a great book. The story was so well thought out and written it never even occurred to me it was a shorter story. It had the feel of a full length novel with all the parts necessary. Just enough back story on their relationship to get the gist of it and see them progress from the friends stage to the lovers stage ;)

Would I like to see more from Hayden and Jace? Hell yes! Did I feel cheated at the length? Not so much, surprisingly! Am I crossing my fingers and toes and praying Ms. Day can publish more books as fast as humanly possible! MOST DEFINITELY!!
