Secret Alpha Release Blitz-Review

Welcome to our stop on the Secret Alpha Tour! We're definitely fans of Kristen Ashley at Co2BL so when we first found out about A is for Alpha Male, we were salivating to read it.

Yeah, some of us more than others! :P

Hey. I can't help it if you jumped the gun and read a book that were were going to buddy read without me. :P

Well...It was KA related! I couldn't help it!

Suuuurrrrre. :P

I’m Dan Smith, and I’m currently living two lives. Maybe even three if you really look into it. Haley, Allison, Hunter, Wade, Sergio, and Isla all exist in one or more of them somehow.

Am I a supporting role in their stories, or are they merely characters in mine? You decide.

Haley told her story. Now I’ll tell mine.

She said. He said.

This is my story.

Warning: Some explicit language and sexual content.
Note: This IS a full length novel at ~75,700 words. It is just slightly longer than A is for Alpha Male.

Just a fair bit of warning, my review for Secret Alpha is going to be a wee bit short, as I (unusually) don't want to give away any spoilers! ;)
When I heard Ms. Curtis was writing a companion to A is for Alpha from Dan's pov, I was so excited! I couldn't wait! I absofreakinglutely loved Alpha and was quite intrigued to see Dan-O's side of things and learn about some events that we had no knowledge of from Haley's pov. Let me just say, it was just as awesome as I was hoping! Secret Alpha still had all the funny, laugh out loud bits I adored from the first book, but it also had a more serious edge. With Dan's other job and all, we got to see a more Alpha side to him ;) I don't wanna say too much that will give away any secrets, but I definitely felt more of a connection to him. I loved that he was brash and had just as dirty of a mouth as Haley did in book one! Oh he was so hot! I loved Secret Alpha and if you've read the first book, you definitely need to read this one! It gives such a better inside look at the things Dan went through, and how much he truly loved Haley and at the trials they went through to get to their happily ever after. And the epilogue was fabulous! I wanted to read that part over and over again, it was so great! There truly wasn't any aspect of this book that I didn't like. I couldn't put it down! The writing was so well done and flowed, you'd never know that Ms. Curtis is a fairly new author. She has a great style and even though I haven't read any of her other books, she's an author I can tell I will be keeping an eye on for future greatness!  I highly recommend both A is for Alpha and Secret Alpha!

And for a treat, here's a joint review of A is for Alpha!

I’m Haley Whitfield, and I recently had the ingenious idea to enlist my mother, Allison, as my kick*ss sidekick and set out on a road trip.

This road trip wasn’t to be just any road trip, but a very special one indeed. An adventure with an acutely specific purpose-- to find our other halves. The peanut butter to our jelly. The i to our Phone. The stripper to our pole.

If our romantic desires were a personal ad, they would read something like this.

** Two sassy women (Ages twenty-seven and forty-nine respectively--Ouch. Okay, ages twenty-seven and thirty--with nineteen years experience-- respectively) seeking Alpha Males to love us with zeal and kiss us with skill. Gorgeous face and sexy, tattooed, hard body a must. If you aren’t a dangerous bad*ss with the x-rated skills and virility to match, don’t bother. Must be willing to protect us from danger, value our quirkiness, and keep your mouth shut when said quirkiness is what leads to said danger. Momma’s boys named Dan Smith need not apply.**

I know. It’s a bit wordy. In fact, it would probably cost a fortune. Luckily, we’re not ready for the personal ad. We’re not that desperate...yet.

This is my story.

Warning: Some explicit language and sexual content.

So... I know you read this forever and a day ago, but what did you think?

Five Fucking Fantastic Stars! I Fucking loved this book!

LOL. I shouldn't be surprised. I think anything KA related is an automatic 5 stars for you. ;)

Hey! I can't help that I love KA. She's amazeballs!

LOL. So you've said...many times.

Ok miss smarty pants....what did you think?

Geeze. Put a girl on the spot why don't you?!

raised eyebrows That didn't answer my question....

LOL. No need to get testy!

waiting

Well...I can't say I loved it.

surprise

In true KA fashion, I had a love hate relationship with it.

rolling eyes You and your KA issues!

LOL. Hey. That doesn't stop me from reading KA. And it didn't stop me from reading this.

blushing I did wonder if you'd have issues. Was there anything you liked?

Yeah,  I liked Haley. She was funny and outrageous.

Haley was quite possibly the best female character I've ever read. I want to be her when I grow up!

LOL. I hate to break it to you but you are in fact older than Haley. :P

straight face You had to go and bring that up!? And may I remind you that you are too!

Lol. I know. But you're still older.

Anyway...as I was saying, Haley and her 'dirty mouth' felt about as real as it gets and I freaking loved it.

LOL. It was good. She had me in stitches. And I actually have a friend that's like that, so Haley reminded me of her.

Her relationship with her mom, Allison is one that I really loved reading about. It's one of those relationships all girls should have with their mothers. Hell, even the relationship she had with her older brother, Hunter was freaking cool.

See, the relationship with her mom was something that bugged me. It wasn't bad. It was really good. I'm really close to my mom and spend a lot of time with her, but Haley and her mom had a...weird...WTMI relationship. There were a lot of things I wouldn't have done or said with my mom around. It was just a little weird to me. Especially with Haley calling her mom Allison. I would forget that they were mother/daughter until Haley would go back to calling her mom or mommie.

LOL. Ok, so they had a weirdly close relationship that included talking about having sex and a guy's junk...and I couldn't do that with my mom, but I still thought it was great.

Yeah, I can agree on that. It was a nice change of pace to read about a great relationship between the main character and their parent vs. all the bad relationships in other books.

You know, when I started this, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Other than knowing it would be a cute lighthearted read from the blurb. And while it was those things, it was also so much more. It was freaking hilarious! I seriously couldn't stop laughing!

I have to agree. I did love the banter between the characters. I have quite of few laugh out loud moments.

I know we hate giving away spoilers, but we should probably discuss the small (ish) seriousness to the plot that gave it just that much more greatness.

I agree. I found that to be a nice little, albeit unexpected, treat.

We've got to talk about Danny "Dan-o" Smith.

LOL. I loved him. From the first time he was introduced, I was hooked.

I agree. Dan-O was an alpha male in disguise. Sort of anyway. I liked him from the moment he opened his mouth and said "

“Tsk, tsk. Only one night in and you’re already lowering your standards and straying from the list? I expected more backbone from you.”

Yeah it's pretty safe to say, he just got better and better. As did this book.

I agree. And the banter between him and Haley just made the book for me.

And in keeping with the list made in the book, we've made our own list:
A: Amazeballs
B: Bravo
C: Cool concept
D: Delicious Dan-O (I concur!)
E: Excellent
F: Fucking Fantastic, I would have said funny but ok.
G: Great Story
H: Hilarious writing
I: Intriguing
J: Joe Callahan *happy sigh* Yes,*sigh* Cal. :|
K: KA fans...I'm surprised there isn't an official fan name for them
L: Loved it
M: Mamalicious
N: New favorite author
O: Omg did I mention I loved it?! LOL. Nope. I never would have guessed. :P
P: “Peace out, Mammajamma.”
Q: Quirky characters
R: Road Trip!
S: Snarky
T: Twist
U: Unknown
V: Vacation
W: Why haven't you read this yet?
X: X-tremely awesomesauce...LOL. Isn't that cheating? Hey! You come up with an x! Um. No.
Y: “Yippeee!” You're stretching now. This is hard!
Z: Zealous - because there aren't enough effing Z words!
