REVIEW: The Intern by Marni Mann

The Intern (The Dalton Family, #4)The Intern by Marni Mann
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Book Description:

A scorching hot enemies-to-lovers office romance from USA Today best-selling author Marni Mann …

In the legal world, everyone knows my last name. So, when Declan Shaw—the hottest, most ruthless and sought-after litigator in the state—comes in to mentor my class’s mock trial, I decide not to reveal that piece of personal information.

I want a one-on-one with him like I’m any other law student, especially when we go out to celebrate after class.

But the one-on-one ends with us in the alley behind the bar.

With us stripping off our clothes.

With me screaming his name.

It’s desperate-to-have-you, no-holds-barred, downright filthy sex.

And then, he ghosts me, like a complete alphahole.

But a few weeks later, when I walk into The Dalton Group—my family’s law firm—where I’m starting my internship, my new boss is waiting for me.

The man I despise.

The man I can still taste in my fantasies.

Declan Shaw.

There are four stand-alone books in the Dalton Family Series:
The Lawyer
The Billionaire
The Single Dad
The Intern

I like asshole heroes as much as the next girl but Declan was working my last nerve. The way he talked to Hannah had me ready to throw my kindle clear across the room. I loved the first book in the series and while I haven't been keeping up with the other books, this one looked awesome.

Unfortunately for me, it fell short. I'm fully aware this was a me thing. I know a lot of people will absolutely love this book. I just had a problem with how Declan treated Hannah. How he talked to her. I just couldn't get past the feeling that Declan was just interested in his own pleasure and wants and didn't actually care about Hannah. Don't even get me started on the anal scene. This goes back to Declan only caring about his pleasure. This was the first time they're actually in a bed together (as opposed to being on a desk or against a wall or window) and he decides he wants anal. Now, I'm definitely not an expert on anal, but from all the reading I've done, I'm aware that there should be prep, and lube and he did none of that. It was just a major turn off and I couldn't skim through his pleasure fast enough.

I will say, the one big bright spot in this book was that he acted like an adult and had the difficult conversations about their relationship. Overall, this won't be a reread for me.
